About Us

Scouting America, Troop 23 is chartered by the Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria - St Demetrios Cathedral. We have been active since 1938 and we are the longest continuous running Greek Orthodox Scouting program in the country. Our troop is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where young individuals can develop leadership skills, outdoor proficiency, and a sense of community.
Our Scouting Values
Scout Mission: The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Scout Oath: On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Outdoor Code: As an American, I will do my best to – Be clean in my outdoor manners. Be careful with fire.
Be considerate in the outdoors. Be conservation-minded.
